Montefiore 4 is a small boutique property inside the historic fabric of Safed (Tzfat) — the Galilean hill town where Kabbalah took shape in the sixteenth century. Two independent suites occupy a restored stone house in a quiet lane of the Jewish Quarter, each with a private entrance, an equipped kitchen, air conditioning and views toward Mount Meron.

Staying inside the Old City, not beside it

Most accommodation marketed as 'Safed' sits in the newer neighbourhoods, a drive away from what visitors actually come to see. Montefiore 4 is inside the Old City itself: the Ari Ashkenazi and Ari Sephardi synagogues, the Abuhav synagogue, the Artists' Quarter galleries and the famous blue alleys are all reachable on foot.

The lane is not a through street, so even in high season the suites keep the feeling of a private home rather than a hotel corridor.

The two suites

The boutique couples' suite is built for two: a double jacuzzi, a terrace looking out toward the Meron ridge, stone walls and vaulted ceilings kept from the original structure.

The royal family suite is designed for larger groups — a parents' bedroom, a children's room sleeping up to six, a living area and a full Shabbat kitchen, which makes multi-night and holiday stays practical.

What is nearby

Within walking distance: the ancient cemetery with the graves of the great kabbalists including the Ari and Rabbi Yosef Karo, the Artists' Quarter, viewpoints over the Galilee, cafés and small restaurants.

A short drive away: Meron and the tomb of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, Mount Meron, the streams and hiking trails of the Upper Galilee, and the Hula Valley.

Practical details for guests arriving from abroad

Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out until 11:00; on Shabbat, departure is up to two hours after Shabbat ends.
